Discover Kimono Japanese Restaurant

Walking into Kimono Japanese Restaurant feels like stepping into a familiar neighborhood spot that happens to do Japanese food really well. I’ve eaten here more times than I can count, usually after a long afternoon in Clemmons, and it’s the kind of place where the staff starts to recognize your order. Located at 2519 Lewisville Clemmons Rd, Clemmons, NC 27012, United States, this restaurant has quietly built a loyal following among locals who value fresh fish, generous portions, and a relaxed diner-style atmosphere.

The menu covers a wide range of Japanese staples, which makes it easy to come with a group and keep everyone happy. Sushi rolls, sashimi, hibachi plates, tempura, and comforting bowls of soup are all represented. On one visit, I watched a couple next to me split a sushi combo while their kids demolished chicken hibachi with fried rice. That flexibility is part of the appeal. You’re not locked into one dining style, and the kitchen seems practiced at handling both raw and cooked dishes without slowing down service.

From an experience standpoint, the sushi bar stands out. I’ve chatted with the chefs while waiting for rolls, and they’re open about how they prep fish daily and keep rice at the proper temperature. Food safety guidelines from organizations like the FDA and CDC emphasize strict handling for raw seafood, and it shows here in the clean prep area and consistent quality. Rolls arrive neatly cut, fish tastes clean, and textures are balanced rather than overloaded with sauce.

The hibachi side of the menu deserves its own attention. Portions are large enough that leftovers are common, and the cooking method is straightforward: high heat, quick sear, and simple seasoning. That approach aligns with traditional Japanese cooking principles often discussed by culinary experts like Masaharu Morimoto, where ingredient quality matters more than heavy sauces. Steak comes out tender, shrimp are cooked just right, and vegetables still have bite instead of turning soggy.

One real-life example that sticks with me happened during a busy Friday dinner. The dining room was full, clearly a weekday lunch rush crowd bleeding into dinner, yet orders came out accurately and on time. That kind of consistency usually reflects solid kitchen processes and good communication between servers and cooks. It’s also something you’ll notice echoed in online reviews, where guests frequently mention reliability and friendly service.

Speaking of reviews, many locals describe Kimono as a family-owned style restaurant, even if they don’t know the ownership details. That perception comes from how the place operates. Servers check in without hovering, substitutions are handled easily, and mistakes, when they happen, are fixed without attitude. Trust builds quickly when a restaurant handles small issues well, and that trust is a big reason people keep coming back.

There are a few limitations worth noting for transparency. The décor is simple and hasn’t changed much over the years, so if you’re looking for a trendy or upscale dining room, this may not be it. During peak hours, wait times can stretch a bit, especially for sushi orders. Still, most regulars accept that trade-off because the food quality remains steady.

Overall, Kimono Japanese Restaurant fits neatly into the Clemmons dining scene as a dependable spot for Japanese cuisine. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick lunch, meeting friends for rolls, or grabbing takeout on the way home, it delivers a balance of flavor, value, and comfort that’s backed up by repeat visits and consistent local feedback.

  • I ordered the chicken hibachi dinner which came with carrots and white sauce (I think they call it shrimp sauce). My food was so good! I had leftovers for lunch the next day which is even better. I had never eaten here before so I was skeptical but glad I did. They were very busy as well which was a sign that their food is good. I definitely recommend.

  • My family and I had a great time here. I've tried it twice and will be back again. You'll regret it if you haven't tried it yet. We loved the food; the fresh ginger salad was amazing, and the hot pot bone broth soup was delicious. (I loved the natural collagen.) The chicken with beef and mixed vegetables was cooked to perfection, and the portion was excellent. I tried the thick noodles with shrimp, chicken, and broccoli, and it was delicious. If you love noodles, you will love this dish. I tried the steamed rice with mushrooms, beef, and chicken, and it was so delicious. I felt full! I love this place and recommend it to anyone who loves Asian food like me; they will definitely love it.

  • Great first time experience. I liked the teriyaki more than the hibachi but both were very good. The steak and scallops were light years above the chicken and would highly recommend both. I am not a fan of sushi but tried it anyway. It's always good to try new things, right? Overall, an excellent experience! In the words of Arnold, "we will be back"
